Problem with one phone:
- If only one of your phones does not work, unplug it and plug in a working phone. If you have only one phone, borrow a working phone and plug it into the jack of the non-working phone. If that phone works, you know the problem is with the original phone. Check your warranty or contact the store where you purchased the phone.
- If you have a Network Interface Device (a gray box attached to your house or building where the telephone comany attaches the outside wires), you can plug a working phone into the Network Interface Device (click to see detailed instructions). If there is no dial tone at the Network Interface Device, the problem is probably in the outside line. Contact Service Electric Telephone Company repair.
- If you have a normal dial tone at the Network Interface Device, the problem is not in Service Electric Telephone Company's outside line. The trouble is either in the wiring or jack inside your house, building, or in your telephone equipment.
Problems with one or more phones:
If You are having any of the following problems on all of your phones:
- No dial tone
- Can not call in or out
- Can not hear or be heard
- Noise or static
Note: one faulty piece of telephone equipment can cause a problem on all of your phones.
- See Step 2 in problem for single phone.
- See Step 3 in problem for single phone.
- Unplug every piece of telephone equipment including cordless phone bases, answering mahines, computers, modems, burglar alarms, etc., then plug in a phone that you know is working.
- If this phone works without any problems, you can assume that at least one piece of telephone equipment is faulty. By adding each piece of equipment in turn until the problem recurs, you can determine which piece of equipment is causing the problem.
- If the known working phone does not work, but you have dial tone at the Network Interface Device, the trouble is in your inside wiring or jacks.
- If you do not have a Network Interface Device, contact Service Electric Telephone Company repair to check the outside line.
Note: Sometimes during or after a storm you may experience no dial tone when cordless phones or answering machines are in use. Unplug your equipment for 10 to 15 minutes then reconnect it. If you still do not have a dialtone, contact Service Electric Telephone Company repair.
