Testing Your Telephone Wiring:

Follow this procedure to determine if the problem is in Service Electric Telephone Company's line or in your inside wiring.

  1. Unscrew the Network Interface cover at the Customer Access point with a screwdriver and open. (see Network Interface Image.)
  2. Disconnect the modular plug from the test jack. This will disconnect your inside wiring from Service Electric Telephone Company's lines.
  3. Wait one minute, then plug in the base cord from the known working telephone. You are now connected directly to Service Electric Telephone Company's line.
  4. Try to use the telephone.
    1. If the problem still exists, it is in Service Electric Telephone Company's lines. Contact Service Electric Telephone Company Repair.
    2. If the problem is gone, your trouble is with your inside wiring, telephone equipment, or jacks. You may make the repairs yourself, or you may contact Service Electric Telephone Company, an electrician or someone else.
  5. One you have finished your test, disconnect your telephone and re-insert the original modular plug securely. Close the cover and screw the fastener down until the cover is tight.
